The goal of national security is to safeguard the territorial integrity of the nation, to safeguard its borders and to maintain peace and stability for ensuring the survival and existence of its citizens. However, in the quest of providing a robust mechanism of national security, efforts undertaken by the political authorities have very often involved trampling of individuals rights, freedom and liberties. With advances in technology, increasing complexities of the global political front, the growing need for countering terrorism and other crimes, the conflict between national security and civil liberties has intertwined even more deeply as balancing the two has become difficult.
